about

This first version of blue beret (wingfinger was the second, and there may be a recording somewhere of me performing it solo, playing piano. I don't know). Lulu Lite, an actress and a remarkable songstress I'd met, did me a great honor by singing my song. She also sang one of my greatest songs of pathos 'Rights'. I will eventually be including it in STST.

lyrics

Where I live one room is empty.
It makes me feel very small.
I can hear the little strangers
when they whisper in the halls.

I keep files on little strangers.
I see them in books and flowers.
If I see one in the distance
I will stand and stare for hours.

I'm waiting here, to write the history of the world.
It's so vast and changing, goes from lonely to raging.

Sad, sad, sad,
And in the closet one left a hat.
Blue beret, blue beret, blue beret, blue beret.

When I rode the bus this morning
there were strangers everywhere.
And I could see they're getting smaller.
I've got to tell the world out there.
